About

My name is Kristen Hovet and I am a science journalist covering genetics, medical innovation, psychology, and health. I strive to make science information accessible and meaningful to a wide variety of individuals.

In addition to doing freelance work for several media outlets, I am the founding editor of BRIGID Magazine and a contributing columnist at Genetic Literacy Project.

I received my degree in English from Simon Fraser University. I have completed certificates in Epigenetics, Personalized Medicine, Human Physiology, and Genetics and Evolution. I am a member of the National Association of Science Writers and the Association of Health Care Journalists.

Born in Williston, North Dakota, I have moved over 30 times in my life, and currently reside in Vancouver, British Columbia with my family.

When I'm not writing, I love to read, travel, attend concerts, peruse Netflix, and go for long walks and hikes.
